My Second Writing Assignment--We Meet Again

Image
We Meet Again I would address him with a cool, 'hello there, handsome' as if it our meeting had been mere coincidence.  It wasn't--I'd gone seeking for him and I wasn't ashamed to admit it. Across the room he stood, in that familiar blue jacket--only slightly tattered and torn--the mere thought of touching it caused my skin to flinch and flutter.  Like a moth to the flame I inched across the room ignoring the shouting inside my head : 'he's not the only fish in the sea--go find another!'  My eyes focussed intently on the one 'fish' for me and I pushed forward. We'd met years earlier: I was younger, less worldly, and oh so vanilla and he was anything but. He regaled me with tales of adventures (he liked to call them missions), travels to off-beat destinations, and tete at tetes with world leaders.  I was heady on his words and he would grin as he teased me with a little 'ubiquitous' here and an 'avant-garde' there. Future Bookworm?

The other day Zee told me that he was ready to start a chapter book. Although I disagreed with him and tried to dissuade him, because I didn't want him to feel discouraged if he couldn't accomplish his goal, I looked through our books and gave him a Junie B. Jones. He started it on Sunday and finished it on Tuesday! And I think he even caught the jist of it! I totally have to thank Hooked on Phonics for this moment. When we sat down to the HOP program, he was reading by the end of the first 10 minute lesson and from that point on his reading just took off! It gave him confidence! So now he's on to novel #2...The Strange Museum....because although he enjoyed Junie B. Jones he thought the chapters weren't long enou...

Description of my mind.....

I was reading Chronicles of Narnia (The Horse and His Boy) today to the kids and I came across this... "And anyone I catch talking about this young lady will be first beaten to death and then burned alive and after that be kept on bread and water for six weeks. There." I strongly resemble this thinking process! My brain thinks in a completely random fashion and the words that it pushes out of my mouth rarely exit in an orderly format or even a comprehensive one! Thanks to C.S. Lewis for nailing it for me!
