Miracles...

Let me tell you a little story about a baby and her struggle to make it through the first few weeks of her life.

This little girl came into the world pink and healthy looking, sucking her thumb, and very calm. A little too calm actually.

As she laid sprawled out on the bassinet (all 22.5 inches of her) where the newborns are taken for their APGAR test sucking her fingers and looking around, it immediately became apparent by the look on the doctor's face that there was a problem with this little girl.

She had a major congenital heart defect.

That little girl went on to have open heart surgery at 5 days of age, almost died 3 times on the operating table, and was in ICU for almost a month.

When she was released from the hospital (at over 2lbs off her birth weight) the doctors told the family that she would have learning disabilities, difficulty with her fine motor skills and that the family should be extremely vigilant with identifying and addressing any concerns with her development.

She was assigned a developmental specialist who visited the home regularly to assess her progress.

That little girl thrived.

That little girl gained weight at a rate of one pound per week on average.

That little girl took a long time to learn how to catch a ball but she went on to do other things like dance, play soccer, and swim.

That little girl is mine.

And recently, this little girl of mine, who had to take speech therapy to learn how to pronounce her 'r's' and how to strengthen a voice weakened by vocal cord damage won a speech competition last week.

In FRENCH no less!

Waiting for their moment in the spotlight.

Kiki's teacher who worked so hard with her to help her fine tune her pronunciation.

The participants.

Kiki wins!

My beautiful baby girl

You're amazing, sweetheart!

I can't tell you how this little girl of mine continues to amaze me. She is a fighter, a lover, a competitor, a problem solver, and a superstar.

She teaches me something new every day.

I thank God every day for His wisdom in letting Kiki stay on this earth and be a part of our family.   Our lives would be so empty without her.

Congratulations Kiki!
