Saturday in the park...
This song by Chicago kept going through my mind yesterday as we walked along the seawall in Stanley Park
Only yesterday was a Sunday.
And it wasn't the fourth of July.
But there was a man playing a guitar. And people were laughing and singing because it was Vancouver's 125th birthday! The park was PACKED and people were biking, roller blading, walking and sitting on the grass taking in the free concert by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. There was even hoola hooping--felt like we were at Woodstock--free love, free movement, free music. Yeah, I had to hold back from busting out the tamborine and chanting some love chant. Instead I busted out the camera...
The weather was fantastic. Beautiful sun warmed us as we sat on our pic-a-nic blanket and ate our artery clogging KFC (it's okay though because we had a salad to combat the unhealthiness of the fried chicken. Macaroni salad is healthy, right?)
After a couple of hours of wandering around...and seeing two separate car accidents in the parking lot...we nestled into our seats at the Malkin Bowl to attend the Theatre Under The Stars' production of Bye, Bye, Birdie. It was super! Attendance at this live outdoor play has become a tradition in our family and we have gone on opening night for the last three years. This production was far and away the best we've seen! The lyrics were clear, the singing was phenomenal and the acting was professional! The live orchestra was simply amazing! The kids and I LOVED it, however Hubby liked some of the previous productions better (Annie, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat). Maybe his enjoyment of the event was dampened by the bouncy, over active, rapid popcorn eating, gentleman sitting beside him who kept bumping him in the arm all night. (I offered to change seats with him....honest!)
The show ended and three tired kids climbed into the van and within minutes of leaving Stanley Park were all asleep.
A good day was had by all...

Accosted some poor unsuspecting touristy looking person to ask him to snap a photo of us |
The 'sails' from Canada Place in the background.. |
|Zee took this picture. Not bad, except the top half of Hubby's head is missing. |
