Phew, that was close!

It's kind of ironic really.

10 years ago today we brought Kiki home from the hospital after her difficult surgery and long recovery and if tonight's events had have gone differently we would have been back at that hospital.

It was raining and dark.
Shoppers were rushing home with their treasures (HUGE sale at Payless Shoes today!).
There was a big truck.
There was a child in the driver's blind spot.

My child!

Kiki stepped down from the curb and the truck seemed to pause to let her pass but suddenly revved the engine and shot forward.  I was able to grab her and pull her out of the way before the truck even noticed her.  After slamming on his brakes, he gathered himself for a second and drove off.

No stopping to see if we were okay. (Thank you to the car behind him who did roll down the window and inquire.)

No apology.

No nothing.

Kiki said she was literally scared stiff; she couldn't move even though she wanted to.

This pickup truck was a super sized one; the one where a child can not be seen over the hood of the truck because the child only comes up to the bumper or the grill at best.  Include a fluke blind spot position, a dark and rainy night, and a child dressed primarily in black and you have a real situation on your hands.

Thank God He was watching over her tonight: I can't imagine what we'd all be going through right now if He hadn't been.

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"

What a scary event....so glad that it had a positive outcome, and that Kiki is safe. You all must have been SO scared. Is she still shaken up? Thankfully you grabbed her in time, and someone else was looking out for her too. I can't believe that person did not even stop - so sad to see how some people are now, no thoughts of others, just thinking about themselves. It is such a great thing when you do come across someone that cares for others, asks about others, and does nice things for others. Thankfully there was a nice person that stopped to make sure everyone was ok.
